What’s Your Goal?
We’re three weeks into 2025. How’s your goal for the new year going?
My wife and I have multiple goals this year. One, near the top of our list, is to get out of debt. We have talked about this goal for a few years now. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting to accomplish it. But, this is the year. How do I know? I know 2025 is the year we will eliminate our debt, because we’re approaching this goal differently in two ways.
First, we have a plan. Did you know a goal without a plan is just hoping? Cori and I are not hoping. Our plan is written down and specific dollar amounts are in place each month to wipe out individual loans or credit card balances. By the end of this month, the first debt domino will fall when we pay off one of our existing loans. I never look forward to making our monthly loan payment…but this month I do, because it’s the final payment!
The second factor in achieving our debt elimination goal is really the first factor. God. Our plan to become debt free actually started toward the second half of 2024. That’s when we prayed about how to go about reaching our goal. God started us with this scripture: “Owe nothing to anyone except to love and seek the best for one another…(Romans 13:8, Amplified).
Our approach to being debt free wasn’t working, because we weren’t seeking God, and we had no concrete plan. But, as soon as we put it before God, He created a plan that was clear to follow. God not only wants for each of us to be debt free, but He always wants us to seek Him in planning. Proverbs 21:5 (NLT) says: “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty short cuts lead to poverty.”
So, my title should really read: What’s Your Goal, and Your Plan to Accomplish It?
Remember, when God’s in it, nothing can stop it.
